Anyone know how to remove rust from a leatherman signal because after a 50 mile kayaking trip with my local bsa troop the blades have gained some rust, if anyone knows how to remove it thanks

Never heard of this. Tell us more.
This method has been used for as long as i can remember, and i'm old.. The graphite acts like a cut and polish compound, and the eraser acts in the same way as a rust eraser. You could use one of them if you already have one. That is all i can tell you my friend, that actual science behind it i know nothing about, but it works for light surface rust. It is like polishing metal with wax/polish and wet and dry really fine grit sandpaper.:)

I’ve seen pencil erasers used to polish electrical contacts but, never anything about graphite to remove rust.

Assuming the blades are stainless steel, you can use a paste mix of Bar Keepers Friend powder & water. Apply the paste to the affected spots with a Q-tip. Let it sit for maybe 30 - 60 seconds, then rinse it off. The rust will come off with it. The oxalic acid in BKF is what dissolves the rust. Likely no need for scrubbing, with light surface rust. Don't leave the paste on the steel longer than 60 seconds, as the oxalic acid may etch the steel, if left in contact too long.

A flattened brass rifle cartridge used as a scraper works well.
