Leatherman Skeletool Broke?

I have had two Leatherman carbon skeletools - the first one I lost on a backpacking trip last summer so my girlfriend bought me another one. I carried this one for several months until I realized the screwdriver bit was missing out of the bit driver. Upon closer inspection, I realized the bit most likely fell out because the little locking mechanism that holds the bit in the driver was not working properly. It seemed as if the spring that keeps the locking lever on the bit was not working. I thought that maybe the locking mechanism's hinge was maybe gummed up so I sprayed WD-40 on it, but no change. Now I am thinking the spring is just crap.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have had the carbon fiber skeletool for a couple of months and I haven't had a problem with it yet. If I was you I would send it in to Leatherman.

I carry mine a lot and even use the drivers. No weakness in the driver lock mechanism that I can see. I agree with hwpaintballer. Give Leatherman a call and see what they can do for you. It's too great a tool to give up on.

Definitely contact Leatherman.

The bit holder on my Skeletool is very secure, with the bits clicking into place.

My bit holder is very solid as well. When you get yours fixed up, check out the bit kit. Lots of different styles and sizes (42 in all) for $20.
