Hi guys I am usually over on the traditionals sub forum but I need some multi tool advice. I brought my original leatherman to work not thinking I would miss it that much at home with all the other tools I have...WRONG. Didn't realize how much I actually used it. So now I want to replace it, I am a fan of both companies and I am up in the air on which one to buy as they both would fit the bill and to me the price difference is nominal, so leatherman skeletool cx or Mike Horn wenger? Would like to hear arguments for or against both. Thanks

John

I don't know much about the Wenger but I carried a Skeletool on my flack jacket in the field and now I carry one in my flight suit. I can't think of a time where I wished I had more tool options. The needlenose, screwdrivers, wirecutters, and bottle opener (and the blade of course) have come in extremely handy countless times for me. An old roommate of mine once used the wirecutters on his to cut open a can when our kitchen can opener broke. I only wish I had waited and gotten the non-serrated blade cx that is now available. Other than the serrations, theres not a damn thing I'd change about the tool, its outstanding. The 154 CM blade sharpens up back to shaving sharp with a few quick passes on the sharpmaker even after months of neglect. The carabiner even comes in really handy for dummy-cording so I don't lose my favorite multitool. CX has my vote.

They're not comparable IMHO. At 8.8 oz the Mike Horn Wenger is massive, it's actually heavier than LM Wave but with less tools. The Skeletool at 5 oz is designed to be a light weight multitool with only the most basic features.

Thanks for the responses guys, I have been leaning towards the skeletool cx so I think that's what I am going to buy. I have about 40 dollars in cabelas points also and I know they carry it. Thanks again.

I had put my Skeletool CX aside and began carrying a Wave, but that didn't last. A lot of weight for very little use. The Skeletool is not only my multitool of choice, it's my only EDC on many days.

I was at a big chain local sporting goods store last night, they had the regular skeletool packaged with 2 flashlights, a small one and and even smaller one for 59.99 figured it was a good deal since the lowest I have seen the cx for was 89.99 so I picked it up.

I gotta say I don't know why I am suprised by how well it's made, I mean it opens and closes with a snap and there is no play or space anywhere to be found, all pretty much consistent with my first leatherman supertool.

I think I made the right choice, although being the gear junkie I am I will probably end up with the Mike Horn also at some point.
