So i was using the large flatblade on my supertool the other day to open a deck fitting on a boat ( basicly a large slotted screw) and with little torque the damn thing snapped off and fell into the lake . Almost dropped the tool in also but i grabbed it . With the flat blade completly missing now all the other tools are loose and come out when the pliers are unfolded rendering this useless in the field . Soooo anyways leatherman , you suck .. i have opened hundreds of deck fittings with my victorinox tinkers flattie and it never let me down . For as heavy as the st300 is you would think it could do a task it was designed for without breaking . I know i can send it back but its just the principal of it all. I pay good money for reliable gear , not cheapy made crap like this . Not happy . That is all .

Send it back, leatherman has EXCELLENTLY unconditional no-questions asked warranty. I've never heard of something like that happening to a leatherman before.

By the way, if you plan on tossing it or never using it again, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands for you :D

Good luck though

THIS!^^^

My better half and I were out walking a few years back, and Karen found a Leatherman wave by the side of the road. The main knife blade had been snapped off, but it was otherwise in decent but well used condition. Looks like it had fallen off a passing work truck.

Karen sent it in to Leatherman and they took care of it with no questions asked. Gave it to her son-in-law a year later. He's still got it.

Multi-tools are designed for convenience and light use.
A real screwdriver has much more strength than any multi-tool.

Great find!

I'd get it fixed and then give it another chance. Even high quality manufacturers can make a heat treat mistake or get a piece of steel with an internal flaw they have no way of knowing is there. Stuff happens. When it does, a good company will make it right with you.

I've turned some pretty tight screws with the large Flathead on my leatherman fuse with no issue, I've also turned some pretty tight screws with the Phillips on my 20yr old micra without issue.
Whatever you do Don't write them off, give them a chance to make it right. Even the best companies can have unforeseen defects now and then.

I've had no issues with my ST300 using it hard everyday at work. Could be a bad one you got? as a side note, the ST300 has a fold out lanyard ring for working around water or heights.

LM has a great warranty.
Lanyard holes can be your friend.
Folding knives and folding tools do have their limitations and sometimes we explore and exploit those boundaries - hence my preference for brands with good warranties such as LM.
