So...I sent my Leatherman SuperTool, the original, in to Leatherman because they years had finally gotten to it. The serrated blade was broken, the handles didn't line up, and two of the screwdrivers busted. In true Leatherman fashion, they sent me a new tool with a 2-week turnaround. However, they sent me the new SuperTool 300.

My intial reaction is that this tool is much more stout than the original ST. It is larger, and doesn't fit in the hand quite as well, but seems like an overall nice tool.

I like the fact that it has replaceable wire cutters. Sorry for the short review. More to come in the future when I have a chance to play with it.

Once again :thumbup: for Leatherman Customer Service.

Leatherman takes good care of their customers for sure!

I have carried a large leatherman for the past few years, I have two Core's and two ST 300's. Both have their advantages, ST300 grew on me after a while.

Rick, if you are willing to share, may I ask what you do with two copies each of these Leatherman models?

Please forgive the digression, but this post raises something I have pondered for a while. Including Rick, several people on this forum have posted that they own and use several samples of the same multitool. My speculation has been that either these folks are collectors as well as users, or have need to strew them about at different locations (workplace, truck), or pick up extras for gifts or resale when found at bargain prices. These are things I sometimes do myself, but mostly I own them one at a time, using whatever works well for me, passing on those that are not a good fit. I was just curious about how multiples work for other forumites.

My view is that buying multiples of the same knife or multitool, or just buying several knives in general, is done because it fires of the pleasure neurons deep in the secret places of our brains.

We come up with all manner of excuses to justify this, but for many of us - and I know for me - the enjoyment of searching, looking, finding, purchasing and staring at the mailbox brings some kind of strange pleasure that other people get from golf trips or bass boats or buying shoes.

Thats why I own maybe 50 folders, 30 fixed blades and 20 multitools. And don't get me started on flashlights.

I own the Supertool 300 as well. Big and beefy, it rides in my vehicle manpurse. Wish it has scissors, though.

Apparently they have plenty of spare parts for the SuperTool 200. I sent mine in for repair about 6 months ago and they sent it back to me repaired. No complaints, but a ST300 would have been real nice:D

I am in the Army, I have a Black in each model for work and a polished one for when I am not at work! And yes I do store them in different locations.

I also carry two leathermans at the same time. Use to be 2 PST's ....but now I carry one Blast and one Wave. I do this so that when needbe I can employ both at the same time... (ie. to remove a not & bolt with different fittings on each end. Also each has items that the other doesn't. I can loan one to my brother if we are out fishing or hunting.
As compact and versatile as they are I'm surprised more people don't do that.
And I fully agree, that Leatherman has the best service to its customers PERIOD.
I've had 3 replaced over the years, never - ever - had a problem with them.

Instead of 2 Leathermans, I tuck a 6 inch adjustable wrench into my NiteIze pouch on the theory that if I need an extra tool, it would likely be to hold a nut.
My brother can bring along his own damn multitool :D .

Actually, one brother would (owns multiple SOGs) and another brother (more a gun guy) would not.

By the way, let me tell you how it was in MY army. I had a four-bladed, scout pattern Imperial Kamp King, the finest pocket knife money could buy for $3.50 (in today's money, $8.00.) It was used for a variety of camp stuff, plus opening C ration cans in which the only contents that didn't taste horrible were the pork and beans (P38 is too fiddly). Good times :barf: .

That KK never let me down; other way around, actually. After 15 years of faithful service I gave it to a girl friend who promptly lost it. To tell the truth, I like Leathermans far better.

Yea, I often wonder how the old guys survived without a multi tool, I think if I were around pre-multi tool time I would carry a good SAK and a small pair of pliers.
