I have noticed that my leatherman surge is really uncomforterable to really use much. Every edge on it was just as sharp as it can be. Even the thumb hole on the blades is jaged. Basically all I did was knock the edges off with a dremel and then polish it out with 150 grit, 400, 600. I didn't polish the blades or anything, just the edges and thumb holes. it's made such a huge difference in the blister factor.

pic coming

I'm not photographer and my camera is junk. but I hope you can get the idea.

lol I realize this seems stupid. But it has made this thing so much nicer to use. Especially rounding the spine on the blades. Sure makes it easier when you have to dig it into wood.

I'm going to go cry in the corner. No body appreciates my mod. Tell ya what, go out in the back yard and practice making a bow/drill for building a fire. Actually do it like 3 times. Then knock the edges off your leatherman and see how big of a difference it makes.

Looks good. Have you thought about polishing your surge where it has a bead blast finish to help curb potential rusting. I've owned several leathermans and the surge is the first that I've ever noticed rust on. It was only a few specks so its not a big deal, but polishing the whole tool would help prevent rust and I think it would look better.

Hmmm. Interesting. Don't know if I would do it to my Surge, mostly because of the rust factor. I live in a fairly tropical climate.

From your pic, although I can barely make it out, did you also smoothen out the tops of the security torx screws? And also the top side of the serrated knife blade, right?

JackBauer24, yea I usually get at least a blister, either from friction or from holdin on to the tender bundel alittle to long when practicing, and a rough edged tool on top of chared fingers dosent help at all.

If the tool is more comfortable in use,job well done.

Only 3 hours to put you in cornor? Jack Bauer was so much better before he had feelings....,

Nice job on the mod.

every sharpish edge got knocked down and polished. The tops of the torx got a little because I used sanding blocks to just hit all of the the "pokey" edges.

I thought about it, but I did have a reason not to. It see's pretty hard use regularly, so it would just get scratched up that much easier and being as anal as I am I'd constantly be polishing it back out.

yeah I like those, I just don't like opening it all the way to get to a blade. I have yet to find one that is "perfect" for me.
