My gramma had me order a bunch of stuff for a few people in my family and told me to pick out a few things also. So I chose wisely and kept the price to a minimum :-).

-Leatherman Surge ( -Bit Driver Extender ([url] -Bit... is the magnifying glass, but it's no biggie.

I do have one question though. The surge i ordered is coming with the "leather" sheath. Will this securely hold my surge if i'm jumping around in the woods with it horizontal? And will it hold the file, 2 bit kits and extender in it all at once?

Hi there,

I just bought another LM Charge TTi and it came with a "leather sheath"...it actually is made out of leather and nylon but it is pretty good. I like to carry my MT's and EDC's horiztonally and I was not comfortable with the sheath I got with my Charge as there was too much play for my liking and I felt that I could lose my MT...which I don't want to do. So yesterday I did a little modification on my sheath (hopefully I remember to post some photos when I get home from work) and sewed a band of nylon strapping onto the side of the sheath to close the gap. I am confident after my modification that my MT and EDC will stay snug and safe. I actually have had to do modifications to almost all my sheaths to fit my liking but I am fairly picky when it comes to my tools (knives)....so be prepared to do some sewing!

I don't have a problem with sewing if it's going to save my MT! How do you think it is vertical? And do the side holders (mini flashlight, bit extender, fire steel, etc.) hold well? I'll be having a bit extender in there, the multi tool, 2 bit kit cards and possibly a maglite solitaire. Should it all stay in fine? I tend to climb or jump in the woods a lot where i hunt/fish so it's an issue. I mean, i follow mainly the same path everytime, but i don't want to have to go on a S & R operation just to find a piece i missed.

The Surge sheath is pretty decent. Mine never gave me problems. the 2 bit cards will not fit in the sheath with the tool. unless you like having to pry it out and force it back in every time.:thumbdn: one bit card will fit, so pick your most used bits and put in one card. The file and saw bits will also fit pretty well tho this will make the whole thing quite snug. Add the extender, fire steel, and other bits, and it will be pretty tight. So you won't have to worry about the surge falling out.
I found the Leatherman sheath didn't work well for me, and made my own that held everything I wanted it to. 2 days later I realized I would never be able to keep my pants up, and I was walking lopsided. The bit cards and extender stay in my bag and I made a sheath that holds jut the tool and a small light.

Personally I think that the sheath is fine vertically.

this photo shows how my Sebenza is more enclosed with the strap sewn on (when the sheath is shut there is hardly any room for it to come out)

This photo shows how I use the 2 pouches on the sides of my sheath to hold to extra C123 batteries for my Surefire flashlight

this one is just a photo of what I carry on my belt. From left to right: my large sebenza with 2 extra C123 batteries and a bit kit for my Charge; my charge tti with another bit kit and a compass; and my surefire lx2 flashlight

I apologize for the miserable photos as I am using my camera that is attached to my laptop. Oh and I hunt a lot...I crawl on my belly, trek through very dense forests, jump over logs and brush and I have not lost anything yet. I can't tell you the number of times I have been VERY grateful for what I carry on my belt everyday...these tools are invaluable to me!

if I put the accessories in first, then the surge, would that make any difference? Or should I carry the extender & cards in ta diff. Sheath?

It would go in easier, but weigh the same.

The way to go. My cards came with a small nylon sheath that also accepts the extender. It takes little space on a belt, much more convenient to carry, and distributes the weight a little better.
