I wasn't sure where to post this but I'm looking where I can find the little allen tool that I can use to disassemble my Leatherman with.

Any comments where I can pick one up?

Hi Nic,

I am going to move your post over to the General Knife Discussion Forum where you will get several answers.

For the first one most stores that have a tool section, Home Depot, Lowes, Sears and maybe even your corner hardware store, if you are lucky enough to still have one nearby should have them. I have had luck at Home Depot and Sears as well as a couple of online places for wrenches of various types.

On a similar note... I recently sent out my Leatherman Wave to be tuned up after four years of use and abuse. After only two weeks, I have a brand new Wave that they sent me! So if something is wrong with your Leatherman, don't be afraid to send it to them. They will take care of it, one way or another.

This maybe a late reply, but Leatherman uses a proprietary fastener on the tools. As far as I know, a bit isn't available to fit these fasteners.

Slightly unrelated but,
Sears has an all-in-one torx set that has 8 torx sizes, 2 phillips & 2 flat, all in about the size of a Mini-Maglite, for $9.99

It isn't proprietary.

Those types of Torx fasteners are called 'tamper proof', and are widely used in the electrical/electronics industry.

Sears sells a set of Tamper Proof Torx bits for around $8. That set has the size you need. Home depot also has them, and if you have an electrical supply house nearby, they'll have them as well.

Nope, it isn't a tamper proof torx. The Leatherman fastener is a five pointed star shape with a center post. The Torx is a six pointed star (with or without the center post).

Wierd.

The Wave I had came apart with the tamper proof Torx bits I have wihout any hassle.

I never paid any attention to how many sides the fasteners had, and since I no longer have a Wave, I can't look.

I 'll have to agree with MW740; if there is a problem requiring disassembly, send it back to Leatherman, and let them deal with it.

What kind of Leatherman?
Is it the Leatherman Wave?

I have never been able to find a bit to fit it.
Everything I find is a six pointed star.

Somewhere thru the production cycle, Leatherman probably changed from the T-P Torx to the 5-pointed fastener...

Actually it's not damaged. I wanted to play Frankenstein with various parts from different Leathermen.

For instance I love the design of the sideclip, but dammit, I want a saw.

Has anyone experimented with this?

I'm sure someone has done it before.

I always wondered why some company doesn't offer to make custom multi-tools.

I think they could make a killing. Any combination of tools you want.

I have played with changing tools on the PST and PST II. I wanted the plain blade on the PST II. (This was before the Pulse.) I used vice grip pliers and had pretty good luck but damaged the screws. I got the idea from the Equipped to Survive website. Here's the link if you want to try it. Equipped to Survive - PST II Modification I want to try it on a Supertool 200. I would like to switch the new knife blades for the old ones on the original Supertool but don't know it they will work without modification. I just haven't got the nerve yet. (Don't want to ruin the screws on this one.)
