Anyone have stories (include scenarios) of their bit holder breaking on them? I'm currently emailing Leatherman about design. I remembered reading on here a couple of incidents where the bit holder broke. They would like more information on this.

Was working on my bike a few weeks about when the bit holder on my charge went off like a grenade.

I found one of those two pieces at the bottom of the picture about twelve feet down the hall in my bathroom and the other lodged in a cardboard box on my desk about a foot away. Turns out that under extreme stress the bit flexes a lot and just blows out the sides if you torque it too much. The bit holder still works though, I'm undecided if I want to send it back and wait for a new charge.

I'm actually thinking about fragging my surge on purpose. Spoonrobot mentioned the bit holder still works. I'm thinking a standard 1/4 hex bit would fit in that slot without the two fragged sides. :D

I didn't like the idea of the bit holder even before I bought it. The retaining spring fell out of mine after a few times "reversing the bit". Nothing beats a dedicated flat or phillips driver implement.;)

I think the bit holder will be here for a long time, whether we like it or not. If you look at how some of the new plier models use them as well some of the knife models, leatherman has really invested a lot on these dang bits and bit holders. A big stuff up on their part I think.
