i just got a black oxide leatherman wave and the can opener and large bit driver are EXTREMELY loose to the point they will just fall open when i open the tool. should i send it back to leatherman or is their a way to fix this?

Yeah, you can fix it at home. The first day I had my surge i took it apart, oiled and cleaned it and reassembled it and made it to my liking. I don't know if it's a security torx or not on the wave, somebody with one should reply soon. But no, i wouldn't waste your time sending it in.

wow that sounds like some work i don't think i have the patience to do that. haha

Send it in!Leatherman will fix it,and usually for free! I've seen them send guys back brand new ones for ones that were 20 plus yrs old, and do it for free! I'm sending in 3 of them 2 that are 15 plus yrs old now,and I'll bet they will fix them at little to no cost! Good luck!

If you he a multi tool that you use day in ad day out and something gets loose on t, te last thing you want to do is wait for leatherman to repair it. Get the tools and learn how to service it yourself. Join an awesome forum at www.multitool.org. They'll get you on the right track.

To my knowledge that doesn't seem like a common problem. I've own three leatermans and have gifted 5 or 6, all of which were extremely stiff and I had to reassure them that they do loosen up for time once you get using them. If they are so lose it just falls open then I would just fix it myself, but I'm sure leatherman would do so, they have an excellent warranty that they always seem to back.

I've owned, used, and loved just about every Leatherman model since the LM-1 was first introduced, and would highly recommend any or all of them to any dedicated "tinker-er." My current is the original Wave, that goes with me anytime I have my pants on. I will say, however, that I have heard stories lately about Leatherman's quality control slipping, besides which, since I'm now retired and living on a fixed income, I have to be a bit more careful when buying things that I want more than I really need.

Well i got the security bit set and tightened the bolt and its fixed! I still fell i shouldnt have had to buy a new torx set because it wasn't tight from the factory. I would imagine its done by machines that's weird the mine was loose like that.

Well even so, you'll eventually have to do it again. So its better that you have them for when it happens, then having to run out and get them if it's an inconvenient time :-) Good job though. I took the screw portion of mine out and loc-tited it.

Agree with most. Try to tighten it yourself if you have the tools. If not just send it back and get a new one. Leatherman has awesome customer service, won't be a problem. By the way, nice tool!
