I just finished this tonight . Had to take pictures under lights , not sunlight so please excuse the quality .

Nice work good edging and I always like contrast stitching. Just for curiosity is there any reason you leave the edge natural rather than dying? Haven't seen that before in my type of work and I think it's a distinctive look.

I wish I could take credit for the idea of the different coloured edge - welt but I stole the idea from photos of sheaths made by Mike Tea .
I don't think he makes sheaths anymore , which is a great shame . From the small amount of info I've managed to track down its obvious his talent was out of this world .
The edge on this sheath actually had a very light coat of British Tan dye before I started sanding and finishing it . From my experiments I feel it gives it a richer look than just natural .
I love the effect of the contrasting colours and the white stitching seems to frame it nicely .

Very cool and I certainly see a Mike Tea influence there too, he just kinda dropped off the map for a while, maybe it's cyclic and he'll return, pun intended as he was also an avid cyclist too ;)

Yes I finally got a Pay Pal account , which is the only way that I could be a paid up member because I'm in Australia , not the USA .
I'm very happy to be " Golden " :)

I hope Mike Tea does start up again . I have searched and searched everywhere for information and only just find bits and pieces about his sheaths .
If anyone has or knows where I can get hold of any of his tutorial stuff I would be over the moon with gratitude .
I believe he did post some tutorial type things in the mid 2000's , but I don't think it was on this forum .

Very nice harronek. Very nice. Inspiring too. I had just recently left the edges on a few of my latest pieces colorless like that. Dont know M. Tea .. just did it one day and liked the look. Some times it looks unfinished (to me) and I would go ahead and dye it again. lol. .. tho I do have a couple that are still bare - now I think I'll leave them alone. :)

Really nice work...I have to ask, how did you do the edges around the knife hole? Were they sanded into shape or thinned down and rolled in?

If you look closely at this photo of the sheath during production , look at the undyed edge of the top of the sheath you can just make out how the leather has been skived , rolled over and glued

Thanks, I have never seen that before.

It really gives it a more finished look.
