Was wondering if someone could fill me in on what the difference is between these 2 Waves?

I don't think there IS a difference between the two you have pictured. Both are "New" Waves, a model change introduced in 2004.

I agree, both seem to be the same new model Wave. Except for the packaging. I recently bought one from ebay that looked exactly like the one on top. The seller said these were the old blister pack type of packaging.

The lower photo seems to show the newer pack design that they come in now.

Besides the package the difference can be the sheath material, leather or nylon, both packages specify wich one you are buying.

yeah, they both look like the new one based on the new sheath in the bottom one and the open view in the pic on the package that shows the new bit driver

depending on where you get them, i've seen the leather one be like $20 cheaper

knifecenter has the nylon sheath for like $6

I certainly hope they come in the packaging shown in the bottom picture now. The packaging on the top is completely ridiculous - it's way too big. Then again, both are clamshells without rivets so they suck automatically. I'd just as soon like to see them ship in a small cardboard box like the SAKs I've bought have come in. Much less wasteful.

Wally World and clones like to have small, expensive items packaged in big, clumsy clamshell packaging in order to cut down on five-finger discounts.
