This may have been covered before, sorry. When you pull out a tool do they all come out in a clump or individually? I have a SOG Powerplier and pains me to no end when that happens. Severely slows down the process of tool extractment! I also have the Victorinox Swisstool and it's engineered to avoid this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

"Human sacrafice, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!" :o

They clump. This problem is supposed to be fixed on the newly designed wabes, but they aren't available yet.

I have an old wave with the same problem, but worse. It's so tight on one side (from day one) that I have never really used those tools.

BUT, the new LM charge and wave etc (summer/fall) will have locking mechanisms like the LM crunch. On the crunch this has never been a problem and the lock is solid.

Get the new charge or wave if you can hold out

Hey Guys....

I don't mind the clumping at all..

Klattmann...

You interested in trading off that problematic Wave for some sheathing of some type ??

Drop me a note if you would be interested..

Normark,
It's no longer problematic. I 'Fixed' it by removing the lanyard eyelet. Now it's too loose, but passable as a backup tool for messy jobs.
Sorry,

Hey Klattman..

no problem and Thanks...

If you ever want to ditch that POS,:) let me know.. :):)

I've never seen the clumping as a huge issue. It's a simple matter of dexterity to select the tool I want and press the rest down. Clumping is a bigger issue when the tool hasn't been lubricated for a while. A squeeze of white lightning seems to resolve most of the problem. Hmm Swiss-tool, if only Victorinox would make a Wave style tool...........

my understanding be it right or wrong is that clumping to a small extent is there to avoid having a nail nick or other means of opening the implements.

The "in handle" implements on the Wave have either a nail nick or are designed to be lifted out by putting your nail underneath and pulling up. I find clumping to be only a slight problem since I don't use the tool so much at home. At work, clumping is unacceptable :(

It also means that the joints aren't sloppy. The initial tightness on mine loosened a tiny bit after some initial break-in -- you can get the same effect by applying a little lubricant and working the joints a few times.

Having more than one item lift takes some getting used to -- but I much prefer it to tools that wobble after a few months or even worse, tools that just fall partially open while you're using something else.

I'm sure Leatherman made the joints this tight on purpose but given the complaints, will loosen up on the spec in future models. Part of the beauty of the Leatherman tools is that they keep refining them based on user input. ;)

I believe you are correct. The new wave and the rest of the re-made line will offer locking tools like on the crunch. My crunch locks very strong and never clumps...

Yes all the new L'man models will have locking tools with the exception of the entry level Kick.
The new Charge's and the NewWave will have bushings to prevent the clumping effect.

Kap :D

I've always wondered why they dont have someone monitoring the forum on a formal basis. Like chatting with Sal.

I sent them an email back around December 2002, with a bunch of comments on the Wave and Juice lines. I also suggested that they participate in the forums. I specifically mentioned the good rapport that Buck and Spyderco build with their customers. I didn't mention BFC by name, because we didn't have a multitool forum yet, and I didn't know what the protocol was for this kind of thing.

They took a long time to reply, but did respond to all of my points, including the forum comment. If I recall, they asked whether there was a specific forum to monitor. At the time, I was too busy with other stuff to follow up and direct them to here. Eventually, there was one company representative who made about two or three posts, then disappeared. Kind of disappointing. Not sure why they didn't stick with it.

Hello,

Does anyone know the exact width and thickness of the leatherman wave ? (what about the charge Ti and wave II ?)

Thank you very much

sorry if it's been mentioned...couldn't find it in a search.
Just wondering when the new Wave is coming out.

thanks in advance
