Hello, I'm new to multi tools. Looking to get my first nice one. $25 it my budget for multitools. So what do you guys think about the Wingman?

I like mine. I'd like it more if it were the side kick. They're well made, inexpensive tools. I use mine all the time. And I do actually work for a living.

I feel like a good set of pliers can't hurt to have, and with a locking blade, why not just carry it? Would you recommend it? Have you had Any problems with it?

I've heard that the wire cutters on it stink. They may have fixed them, I don't know.

If they haven't, then save up $9 and get a Blast. :D

How are the ergos on the wingman

I think they're awesome when you're using the outside tools (blade or scissors) or the inside drivers. Really comfy. For the pliers .... meh. Because of the asymmetry, the long sided handle digs into the palm of my hand. And it's enough to be really irritating.

I actually have three pet peeves about the Wingman and Sidekick

1) the long sided handle digs into my palm when using pliers ... really uncomfortable
2) the file/ruler/driver tool is cheesy .... although an acceptable mid sized driver
3) the scissors on the Wingman are ok for paper, but less impressive than most Leatherman models

The anvil pliers bother a lot of people. But I find them serviceable and have actually used them. I think they are inferior for light wires, but fine for heavier wire.

I used to own both the Wingman and the Sidekick. I gave my Wingman away (to my Dad) and don't really miss it. I like the plain edged blade, serrated blade and saw on the Sidekick. I carry a Style CS on my keychain, which has vastly superior scissors. So I only gave up the package opener. And I'm fine with that.

My view on the Wingman is here.

I generally gave it a thumbs down for the reasons stated, but part of my view centered on the fact that my scissors would not lock open. But everything is relative. The Wingman is better than a handful of nothing, and not as good as the spendier tools. But I think its fine for what it is. I just favor throwing down an extra $10 or whatever for a Blast, etc. Just my view.

Wingman and sidekick is not full leatherman quality but is still as good as any sog and better than any gerber.
for the price it makes a good first quality multitool.

It's a good starter multitool, and it beats the hell out of everything else in the price range.

The ergonomics in the closed position are pretty good. In the open position, the base of the handles flares out too wide and it can be difficult to use if you have small hands.

As far as multitools go, it's a bit limited when compared to a more traditional Leatherman or Victorinox Swisstool Spirit. You might be happier if you saved a little more and bought one of those instead.

Check craigslist to see if you can get one cheap.

One of the "big box" stores has the Wingman on closeout for $10.48. My wife got me one, and with her employee discount it was $9! I checked several other of the stores, nobody had any, but it`s worth a shot to look.

If all you want to spend is $25, it's an okay deal. Otherwise, I agree with the above.

At that price, a great deal. Can we have a hint at the "bb"?

IMHO it's kind of a crapshoot. I have a Wingman that is pretty tight , but a Sidekick that wobbles a bit. For the price I can't complain though since both have gotten the jobs done when used.
