People ask about leatherman mutitools like they are half as good as a SOG multitools. For all those people I have two words "Compound leverage". The SOG powerplier has needle-nose pliers and when you squeese those jaws shut, it is like squeezing a pair of pliers close with another pair of pliers. All pliers should be like this. Leatherman leads the market because they are more avalibile, but those of us that appercitate good engineering have a SOG multitool.

Leatherman is not bad - their tools are good. The only thing wrong is that SOG's multitool are better ;)
I love my Powerlock.

I see pliers primarily as a means to grip and turn things, rather than as a simple crushing device. For this reason compound leverage really doesn't mean a lot to me. I didn't think that the additional squeezing force was worth the smaller opening angle.

I have found the Victorinox Swisstool to be virtually ideal as a multitool. Some guys around here have had bad experiences with it, but I have used it pretty hard on construction and automotive projects and it has held up just fine.

Leatherman Super Tool works for me. If a project is so big that you need "compound leverage" don't you go to your toolbox? You don't use your Powerlock to hammer things in lieu of a hammer, do you?

Compound leverage is great. I have nothing but praise for it on my Crossgrip. I don't have any of the bigger tools.

I do own a Swisstool though and that has worked ou just great for me. I'd love to have a TiNi Powerlock but I still think that the actual tools on the Swisstool are better.

I must admit that JohnSwotchBlade does own a LeatherMan but I have to say that it is a sub-par item. When working on or around the house you should really have a ToolBox with real Hammers and Screwdrivers. I really hate when the tool folds back and slips when you apply pressuer to it. Especally the Straight head. The blade is ok but doesn't lock and is not as nearly as sharp as my Trusty X-Mac 236!!!!

I was hoping that more Leatherman's would have the locking mechanism that the Super Tool has, but they don't! I'm leaning more toward the SOG Powerlock now b/c it has locks on all tools and scissors... for trimming nose hairs.

The Leatherman Pulse has all locking tools and is a nice slim, light package.

I have heard of the gear-teeth of the SOGs getting caught on clothing, especially on the Crossgrip. Does this ever happen to you?

Allen.

Its happened with my Crossgrip a few times. Just snags the thread in my pocket.
