How is Leatherman's Warranty department?
Today while I was unpacking a new aluminum automotive jack, I used my Leatherman Wave to lift out a piece of packing wire from a hole.
One half of the plyer portion sheared right off and in the process it cut my hand. The cut was not severe--nothing some neosporin and a band-aid could not fix.
I was very surprised how the plyer half just gave way.
By the way, I finished the job with a cheap chinese imitation of the Wave. Go figure!

In 1996 I found a Leatherman PST in a snow bank in Minnesota. Over the years it got even more worn than when I found it. Recently I learned that if you print out a form on their site and send it, along with the broken/worn tool they will send you a new one of equal or greater value with sheath free! I sent my PST in and they sent me a new Blast with sheath in nine days!

Here is the warranty information and PDF form:

Thank you reaper.

I have sent the Wave and the form to them and I do not expect a 9 day turn around
but a couple of weeks would be fine.
I'll report back with the results and the time frame.

Enduring Eagle--thanks, I think you are correct.
It would be the right thing for Leatherman to do.
And it would be nice to know if mine was defective or is there a weak point
on all of them (where mine snapped)?

Sent off my Juice S2 for warranty repair and got it back in about a week.. the pliers were no longer lining up.. The just sent me a new one.. Awesome service

Everything you guys said was right on the money.
In today's mail was a brand new Leatherman Wave.
Turn around time in total---9 days.

Good job from Leatherman's warranty dept.

About seven years ago, my then-fiancee and I were prepping her house for sale. We had a piece of sheetrock (the hard, gray stuff) and I thought a Leatherman ST200 saw would work well for cutting it. It was...for the first two inches. Then it gave up because the teeth were wearing. Not meant for cutting what is essentially concrete. I sent it back to Leatherman, asking about replacing the saw blade. Instead, they sent me a new 200.

A bit off-topic, but SOG does good warranty work, too. In '02, I was at an exercise in MS and three SNCOs and I had to go out and retrieve some rolls of c-wire from another area. Twelve of thirteen cooperated, one didn't, so I cut part of the uncooperative one with my PowerPlier. The jaws bent, I E-mailed SOG and asked if that constituted abuse. They wrote back same day, apologized for the problem, and said send it back. I did, and it took several weeks, but it came back with new jaws.

Thats good. I have a Wave with a broken lock on the blade. I will be sending it in within a week. I will also update.

I've sent in three Waves over the years. One was the old old style and I abused the phillips blade adjusting a clutch on a pneumatic screwdriver. It was floppy too like a balisong. Replaced with a new one. Second one,(old style) I broke the tiny screwdriver. New one. The third one I dropped it with the blade open and the little square blade stop broke off. This time they had the new style Waves. I wrote a letter asking if they had the old style as I prefeered them and they sent me one. Great customer service. The Wave rules.

My pliers keep breaking on mine, are they not heat treated properly? I've broken five, various styles and without really doing too much they just snap. It's funny because I used the same pair of Snap-On needlenose pliers at work for over 25 years EVERY DAY, they've been through hell and I never had to replace them. The Leatherman warranty works though, I just wish I didn't have to use it so often.

Heat treat is not the problem. Snap-On plier heads are forged, those on Leathermen and all other multi-tools are cast. That accounts for the difference in strength. M-Ts can take a lot of use and abuse, but only to a point. They are very convenient but can't really take the place of dedicated tools for serious work.

I've dealt with the Leatherman Warranty program and they have great customer service. I broke several Skeletools the same way you did and every time they sent me a new one. The only thing that I don't like about their warranty program is that they don't sale the individual parts. I broke my MUT's hammer a few months back and I emailed them asking for a new hammer head. They politely answered that they do not send individual parts and that they will be willing to give me a new MUT. Also if you buy your Leatherman's at an REI store, their customer service is EQUALLY as awesome. I recently returned an OHT that i got for a coworker for Christmas. The blade was off centered and it wasn't closing all the way. I went to my local REI and they took it back and gave me a new one with no questions asked. I hope this helps you...

I have a Leatherman Wave that has some rust on the in-erds that I can't get at without taking off the pivot screws, does anyone here know where to find a 5 prong torx wrench that fits the Wave? I'd rather not send mine in, it is sentimental to me.

there is a box to tick on the warrenty sheet you have to print out to return a leatherman if it is sentimental just tick the box and they will try to fix it instead of replaceing it for you
