Friend wants a Leatherneck...

He has Ka-Bar leather sheath ready for it (I told him securex sheath is garbage) and also worksharp diamond sharpener...

He can't decide to go with SF or Tanto...

D2 can be brittle so I told him to take Tanto, he agrees but thinks SF would fit the Ka-Bar sheath better...

I shown him the youtube video where french guy snaps D2 Leatherneck in half by light batoning, but he still wants one for no particular reason.

Knowing the guy - it'll just be in his closet and he'll only use it to cut off price tags of stuff, cuts loose strings, cut ocassionaly bigger piece of meat and similar crap... and he might whack brush and weeds with it from time to time just because why not?

So, SF vs Tanto in your opinion?

own both.. they are the same other than blade shape, its just preference.

I like the tanto a bit better cause its a tanto. i prefer the ontario 498 or kabar if going other way. shape of blade isn't really going to make it any stronger or better for normal knife use really. its just more of a visual like or dislike.

I have the SF placed in a Kabar sheath. Works great. A few millimeters of the ricasso is exposed, but the edge is completely covered and the knife has a snug fit. I personally would go for the SF since it better complements the Kabar archetype aesthetic. If I wanted a tanto, I’d look at other Cold Steel models. Just my two cents though. Good luck to your friend.
