leathers for lining--looking for input

I've experimented with both pig skin and deer skin for lining my sheaths, but am wondering how does goatskin or sheepskin compare? It's time for me to re-stock my l leather and I am trying to decide what to get for lining material without wasting money on something that doesn't perform the way I thought it would.

I've used kidskin from Springfield Leather to line a few sheaths. I hand board it first to soften it up and bring out the grain. Reasonably priced and lots of colors.

I use nothing but 2/3 oz or 3/4 oz Herman Oak Veg Tan to line either thicker veg tan, regular chrome tan, or exotics. The main reason I do that is to try and preserve my expensive knives and guns from the potential effects of chromium salts. I've heard a few horror stories about people with chrome tan lined sheaths / holsters having pitting, rusting, etc. issues from the salts on their steel. I'm not sure how worried a person should or would have to be about such things but it's something that can happen and is worth considering.

Thanks much! I think that is def. worth considering. Appreciate the input.
