Most of you reading this are going to be familiar with the work of
Koyote Girl. As we've states in another thread, Sierra has today sworn
in to the United States Air Force.

So what does this mean for Koyote Knives?

Over the past several years, the sheaths from this little shop have
gone from- honestly- extremely rough in execution to in a class that
sometimes outstrips the finish quality of many of the knives!

In the beginning I was making... sheaths. Almost hate to call them
that. Blade covers. Nothing really wrong with them, but nothing that
would sell a knife in and of themselves. A few years ago, as I was
getting to a point where my sheath design was outstrippping my
construction abilities, a close friend of mine stepped up. That's
Sierra

I offered a bit of training, and combined with her fine attention to
detail and background of art training, in afew shrot weeks she
outstripped my abilities.

To this day, due to experiences I have had from scouting and hiking to
military deployments and reenactments, I provide design hints and
ideas for her. Let's face it- I have 2 decades more 'dirt time' than
she does and come from an environment where carrying a knife in the
field has been a matter of course more often than not. But by about 2
years ago, Sierra was making sheaths that had people asking for custom
projects. Fine, FINE work. And she has been improving that work,
daily, ever since.

Over the past few months, and during the next several months while she
in is her Delayed Entry Program, Koyote Girl has been and will be
working with me to retrain me in the art and execution of
leatherwork. At this point, and for the past 2 dozen or so knives, I
have a hand in some part of every sheath's construction. I also have a
drawer full of sheath mistakes! I'm not yet flying solo, and I have a
bit further to go on the path to making a full KG quality sheath
without her inspection and help. But by the time she departs, I will
be.

That's the essence of the shop promise at this point. When Koyote Girl
leaves for boot camp, there will be no discernable change in the
quality or appearance of the sheaths.

And neither of us really think that she will entirely stop- depending
on her duties, we both expect her to do occasional special projects
for the shop. I have been collecting a second set of tools for her,
when she's ready for them.

For those of you with current orders, no changes. A Koyote Girl sheath
is expected and will be delivered. As we move forward, it will change
to a Koyote Girl QC sheath, and eventually, to a KG style
sheath.

And now, back to the celebration. My dearest friend and associate has
made the most ciritical, biggest step of her life.

Christof,

Your blades in KG's sheaths are a pretty magical combo IMO. You have big pants to fill there, but I am sure that you are up to the task. Looking forward to more great stuff:thumbup:
