Leaving feedback for a sales transaction not linked to a thread

Last week I called "seconds" on a knife listed for sale but the original guy went threw with it. Anyway a guy I have dealt with before saw me call seconds and contacted me because he had he same knife, that while he wasn't trying to sell/trade it in any thread here he didnt mind selling it to me.

What is the proper way to leave him itrader feedback. Should I start a WTB or he start a FS thread and then immediently close it just to make a URL to link? Should we list the thread (that isn't either of ours) which he originally saw me calling seconds in which is what lead to the completed sale? This thread? Is it possible to leave feedback without a valid link (I know it says the link is required so I've never even tried without).

This was afterall a regular sale, not a GAW or "pay it forward". He, who I only know threw the forums, had a knife I wanted, I paid him for said knife and he sent it to me- other than it wasn't a public listing its a run-of-the-mill sales transaction.

Post a thread in the FEEDBACK forum instead of using iTrader.
You can go into greater detail there, too.

Yes that would allow more detail (which he deserves cause he went out of his way to make me happy) but personally I'm more concerned about itrader, its an instant thing people can take into account when dealing with someone instead of having to go to and then search in a separate thread.

With the speed some stuff is sold around here (within minutes of being listed) not everyone has time to go search for someone in the GBU before dealing, with itrader its instant. That's why, to alot of us users, itrader (which will stick around forever and is easy to see) is more important than a feedback thread that will disappear from view in a few weeks or so. In fact the only time I ever search for feedback other than itrader is if the person I'm dealing with has zero, or negative feedback, if you have a + itrader rating I don't even bother looking in GBU, I consider them two completely different things.

Having said that, I feel its very important to leave an itrader score independent of any praise in the GBU forum.

There has to be a trade or sale thread to link to iTrader. Without that it cannot be done.

The GB&U has been around a lot longer than iTrader. It's always a good idea to search the GB&U first no matter the members score.

WTB threads work for itrader. Any reason you don't just start one to use for this deal?

The thread in Feedback is good enough. Artificially padding feedback by starting threads after the fact is not something you want to do, an then get caught. You end up undermining the entire system and getting into hot water.
