 Hey all,i've been reading the posts and articles forever, just hadnt posted much but i have to tell someone whowould appreciate the news. After 3 years of trying i finally get to attend the abs school! Where i can really see how much i don't know about knives. Big question though when i return and finally get my garage cleaned out from the move What are the bare bones things ill need aside from the obvious? I have a small 110 lb anvil a coote grinder(that im not quite sure how to set up),and i 'll have a forge shortly after returning. Any and all thoughts are welcome!

You should ask in the Makers section of the board, in their Shop Talk forum. They'll give you in depth responses.

Hi Kevin,
Just wait until after your class and I think you will have a better ideal of what your will need. I will drop by the school and say hello.

What to do? hmmmm.....here is my short list
1. try not to hit your thumb with the hammer.
2. keep all appendages out of the forge and out from under the air hammer dies
3. keep all skin away from the belt grinder
4. Plan on being out of contact with the rest of the world for the 2 weeks because cell phone coverage in Washington is spotty at best and non-existent if you have T-Mobile.
and, most importantly..........
5. listen to your teachers, do what they say, learn from them and HAVE FUN!!!!!:D

Kevin,
Take lots of notes to review later. Draw sketches, etc. Get contact info from classmates amd teachers. Dont let the learning curve intimidate you! You will get over the hump and make knives to be proud of. Like Joe said, have fun! Lin Rhea
