Does anyone know what kind of steel Lebendwell uses in its folding knives? I bought a knife, not sure of the model number, but they seem to have a lot of very similar knives, so maybe the steel is very similar. I can't seem to get it sharp with my Sharpmaker. I can get it to take the hair off my arm, but strop it on anything and it loses that edge. I don't think I'm a great sharpener, but surely it shouldn't be this hard, especially with the Sharpmaker. Is there something wrong with the steel, or is it just me?

I have done some more research, ie looked at a few more websites, and it seems to be 2Cr18 steel, which is the Chinese name for 440C. So my question now becomes, is this really 440C, was it made in China or Germany, and why can't I sharpen it properly? OK, thats three questions, but you know what I mean.

Don't know about the first 2 questions, but there's 2 likely explanations for the 3rd one.
Either you're rolling the edge when stropping (I found I had to halve the angle on the strop compared to sharpening on the stones),
or the HT (Heat Treatment) is poor. Don't strop it after getting it shaving sharp and see how long the edge lasts during use.
If the edge lasts a long time, it's your stropping technique that needs working on. If it goes blunt after one featherstick, it's the HT.
