Is there any conversion kit commercially available to convert mag lights from incandescent bulbs to leds? If yes, has anybody tried them already?
I have a mini mag, a 2 C and a 3 D light that I would like to convert to leds

I highly recommend the Opalec NewBeam for the AA. It replaces the bulb with three 5mm LED's.

Inretech make conversions for the AA,3D and 6D lights. I own a AA conversion which has proved to be a great purchase too.

There are AA mini maglights that will not work for certain LED conversions. They identify the ones that will work and the ones that won't to help you to determine if yours will work as a host.the older MMs wont work but I don't know the cutoff date. I do know I have TWO that are too old. lol. Keep in mind this refers to drop in conversions only. If your willing to do some trimming soldering and potting you can put anything in it.

Fausto - I have the Opalec drop in for two of my minimags, and can conferm that it's a good product. You can order one from Toolshop. They're good people. It's a European Comunity company, so there are no customs duties to be paid, plus they offer free shipping.

The Sandwich drop-ins for the 2AA minimags are great. If you want to see something cool, check out this MiniMiniMag (right):

It's a MiniMag that was cut down by a CPF forumite to take one AA cell. It works great even with just a regular alkaline AA cell, but it kicks some ass with a 3v AA lithium batt.

I've been meaning to check out the Opalec, Inretech and Everled mods, but haven't gotten around to doing it yet. The Opalec is supposed to have good runtime and the low batt indicator should come in handy. If I recall correctly, the Everled is the brightest with the 3 cell mag and then after that (4, 5, and 6 cell) is just additional runtime. In any case, with all the stuff currently available, there's just no reason to carry a plain 'ole mag.
