Does anyone make an LED Camping type lantern, big or small, that uses CR123's? I saw Coleman has a "Pack-Away" model... $59... might be decent but.... takes 3 CR123's and sounds like they dont last very long. Kind of a surprise since some super bright LED flashlights last forever on one or two cr123's!

So.. what have you guys seen or have?

Thanks!

I use a Zebralight H30w as a directional lantern, flashlight, and headlamp. You can clip it, hang it, hold it, or wear it on its band. Weighs next to nothing, and takes up about the same amount of space. I'm not familiar with all of the current models, but no longer even consider anything except Zebralight flood models with neutral emitters for outdoor use. They make several models that take AAs, too.

Thanks but I am thinking more of a Lantern style.. one that would be good for the picnic table at night and also could be used hanging in the tent.

I have tons of Surefire flashlights, but they are not that handy to be used as a lantern.

Any other ideas?

It's not exactly what you're looking for but here's another option:

A flashlight diffuser http://www.4sevens.com/product_info.php?products_id=339.

I put this on my Quark 123, hang it by the lanyard from the ceiling, and it lights up the entire cabin. (The brightness is adjustable as well since the flashlight has many settings and for $5 it makes a great backup if nothing else.) It works amazingly well!

Glotoob lithium. Seriously mine has been beat to shiz and still works. Runs off of 1 CR123, I use the lanyard and a prusik knot to hold it to the pole in most my shelters Its small, lightweight, and durable. Has a few other modes incase you need them. I have used them as nightlights when my nephews sleep over. Hard to beat except for finding them and the cost. EDIT to add. This is not intended to illuminate a room in your house for daytime like viewing, but for tents, or just a little light to do stuff.

I got one of the Coleman CR123 packables a month or so ago. I used it on a camping trip and it works well. However, seems less than durable. I got it for 80% off at a going out of business sale. Worth it for $12, but not much more.

I have the coleman pack away. Very happy with it, seems to have good battery life, never really use it on high. The strobe has been helpful on a few occasions. I got a different version for my son, green colored, rectangular shape. The plastic base snapped the first time I changed batteries. Wouldn't recommend that version.
