I was at Academy sporting goods today and was looking at the led flashlights. I came upon what I call the Academy brand (Magellean?) and took a look at it. It appeared to be a rather solid light, water resistant, aluminum. Does anyone know anything about these lights? They ran about $30, I thought about trying one out since my photon died and I'm looking for a bigger replacement. But if anyone knows anything about these lights I would appreciate the information. Thanks

For the price you could order a Nuwia Q-III and it would be alot smaller but alot brighter as well .. I was not impressed with the magellion brand at academy

for $10 less you could get a 1-watt UK 4AA eLED light. that is one of the best flashlights i have ever used and compares to $100 surefire lights

the uk will give you ~20 hours of constaint light(around the brightness of a minimag light) and is water-proof

Never heard of Magellean lights.

It depends what you mean by 'bigger'

There are some larger very bight lights like the surefure and clones but the battery life tends to be very short because you are getting so much light output in such a tiny package. If you need this then great, but for close up work surefire type 60 lumen + lights are too bright.

If you are looking for a medium brightness small light check out the peak led mckinley 7 led. Tiny, bright, long (ish) run time and low (ish) cost.

Or a Mini Mag and fit it with a 1 watt luxeon conversion kit...

If you mean 'BIG' get a mag lite 2D , 3D or 4D and fit it with an EverLED luxeon bulb :)
