am fixing to order a replacement LED head for my E2e, is the $125 head (i dont remember the #'s) that much brighter than the $50 head? this is surefire and i bet it is, but 20 lumens vs 60, has anyone compared the 2? is batt life much diff between the 2? just wanna make sure i am getting the right one. am gonna use the lite for general use. also would the head fit a E2D? or should i just get a L4/etc?

thanks

There's the KL1 head wihich is a LuxIII LED driven at 1 watt. Uses an optic which gives a tight, long range beam. I like this head, especially after SF redesigned it late last year. Runtime is excellent, though I can't give you numbers.

The KL4 is a 5 watt Lux. LED in a reflector. Gives a nice wide/disperesed beam. Great for general tasks, but it doesn't have a lot of throw, and is easilt drowned-out by ambient light. Runtime is about an hour, then drops off.

so in your experience if i want the light for gen'l use the KL1 would be ok vs the KL4...........

this is what i was wondering, is the KL4 that much brighter/stronger/etc - i intend to use the E2e(or maybe a E1e) w/a LED head as a utility lite and also carry a SF M3/E2D or M2 for other stuff, so i wont be using it for 'tactical' stuff.

also is the KL4 as bright as a E2D incandescent?

The KL4 is as bright as the E2D.

The KL1 is VERY bright, but it has a lot to do with the optic it has. The KL4 has a wide spill, while the KL1 has a very tightly focused beam. It makes for a very long throw LED though.

For general use, the KL1 would do the job no problem, but for ultimate utility you should get a KL4 with a McE2S tailcap. Makes the L4 into a two stage light. :D

E1e with a KL4 is a great combo, but the runtime isn't real great. And my QIII is whiter. I've never played with a KL1, though. .

I've read lots of great things about the KL4 head for the E2e, but not about the KL1 head for the E1e.

I already carry a kickass LED floodlight in the form of an Inova X5, so I don't need another. I'm going to leave my E1e as is and leave the KL1 be.

However, I am going to set my sights on the KL4 LED conversion head for the E2e. These LEDs are supposed to give the standard SureFire E2e series incandescent bulbs a run for their money. From the reviews I've read, the KL4 is a winner.

thanks for the info, i ordered a KL1 friday, will post what i think of it when i get it next week, if not bright enough, i'll send back and get the '4, i think i'm gonna stick it on my E1e and let my wife carry- shes been bugging me for a utility lite, wants my arc AAA - no way, lol. she carries a Z2 right now, wants something not quite as bright as the Z2.

well i got the KL1 today, it is 3 watt, and it rocks, is every bit as bright as a std incandescent E2e or E2D, i was suprised, they list at 15 lumens IIRC and it sure seems brighter than that, isnt the E2e about 50 lumens or so w/the incandescent? like i say it seems to have every bit as much throw/depth/brightness of the incandescent E2e. it is a tad dimmer w/the E1e but not that much. i compared it to my inova X5, both with new batts and the inova is a toy compared to the KL1, really no comparison, it seems 5 or even 10 times brighter. the KL4 must really rock, imho anyone that needs a $20 bulb should get the KL1 insted at $48, i dont think they will ever break, and it is about equal in brightness. and i must say again there is no comparison to the inova, and man the KL4 must be really BRIGHT...........

am very happy with it.

I had my mind almost set on the KL4 but after reading this and hearing some other opinions I'm not so sure I should consider a KL1 first.

An E2D and a KL1 seem like it would be a good pair.

The new KL1 is rated at 30 lumens I believe.

well the website says 15 lumens, i just looked FWIW. i still dont understand why its rated so low, it is as bright as the std bulb, heck it might even be a little brighter, my surefire catalog has some info on the LED's and IIRC they said LED's were difficult to rate accuratly, didnt say why, but imho the KL1 sure seems brighter than that.

really like it, used it a bunch last nite, no more broken bulbs and a 4 hour 'peak' runtime, the KL4 must really rock. i should/probably will get LED's for some more of my SF lites (ie Z2/C2)

bok - thought about putting it on my E2D but wanted the thing the same color, lol, would be cool too though.

SIFU1A, the text on the Surefire website was not updated when they changed the KL1. The new runtime is roughly 2 hours in regulation vs. 4 hours for the original KL1, which is the price you pay for a brighter LED.

It's worth it to me. These myopic, soon-to-be 44-year-old eyes need all the help they can get! :)
