What does everyone here recommend for an LED or CF lantern for camping? This'll be easy camping w/ car parked at the site, bathroom facilities, etc. The Brunton Polaris has caught my eye and has great customer reviews over at REI.com

Both are pretty efficient and good on battery runtimes (but I think LEDs now have the edge).

However you might want to consider a few alternatives which are inexpensive and can serve dual purpose of being home emergency lighting.

Energizer 3 in 1 LED (WRTWL41E) about $13.50 from WalMarts

Energizer Spot/Area (CFL420WRE) about $13 from Target Stores

This Energizer LED lantern (WRAL3DE) also looks interesting at about $35 -

The Energizer Page on these Weather-Ready lights may be worth looking at.

I bought a set of three LED lanterns from Sportsman's Guide a few years ago and really like them. Besides their use camping where the long battery life was a big plus I keep them scattered around the house for power failures. I bought my Dad some for his camper and he liked them as well.

Let's see the bulbs are good for 100,000 hrs in usual applications, they run cool, have a much better energy efficiency (longer battery life by far) and have come way down in price. The incandecent bulb is on its last legs.
