LED reflectors - Limited Value?

It seems to me that LED reflectors are of limited value in that they only may take care of a small amount of light that leaks out the side of the LED.

The vast majority of the beam is unaffected.

Opinions?

Thanks,

The only LED lights that I know of that make good use of a reflector is the Quantum 2000 and the PAL. For the most part though reflectors are not going to add much to a normal LED, I would bet about 2% to 5% increase, and for the size they add, they usually aren't worth it. In the case of the PAL the LED is about 1mm in size and throws light in every direction so it has to use a reflector and lens. In other cases like the Photon, the small amount of light spilling out to the side can be useful.
