Anyone have an opinion on witch is a better stone? Shaptons are much more expensive but are they worth it?

I have not used them, but the guys on rec.woodworking speak very highly of them, rating them as cutting faster with less wear than various waterstones. You can google some specific post in a few seconds.

I haven't used any Shapton stones. However, I do have 3 stones from Lee Valley, their 200 grit, 800 frit and 4000 grit stones. I love them. I also have the Lee Valley Tools Stone Pons, which kicks butt. I have a CQC-7 tanto with combo edge. I got it in a trade. I think I spent 5 minutes on the strait edge portions using my King Brand (lee Valley) stones! The 800 grit, which is a low grit medium stone, put a finer finish than what was on the straight edges. The 4000 stone put a great mirror finish on the straight edges. I am happy with my King brand stones.
