Hi,

I am going to pick up the Leek and was going to get the standard 1660, but saw the 1660ckt and like the look of that too. Are there any disadvantages of the tungsten coating? Does it help keep an edge better?

Thanks

My Leek 1660 was in Sandvik 14c26n, it looks like they are now using 440A which is a bit low on edge retention. I like my knife (not tough though). I would guess any coating will wear or scratch, it may change the way it feels peeling or cutting food. The coating is just on the sides, no edge help. I might consider coatings for non-stainless steels but the only reason on stainless would be "cool factor" or perhaps not looking like a mirror giving away your position to enemy that I am aware of.

other way around, the steels found in the leek started with 440a, then 13c26n and now 14c28n. All of which Kershaw has had great HT's on.

To the OP- the coating is decent itll take a while for it to start coming off, and itll turn from shiny black to matte black first. but the steel doesnt need the additional corrosion resistance. 14c28n already has a great Chromium count so its not going anywhere

Ok cool thanks. I ordered the standard 1660, I liked the look of that one better. Looking forward to getting it
