My Leek 1660FLG (aluminum scales anodized with the American flag) was made in September of 2007. I know that all 440A-bladed models made during or after July of 2007 were converted to Sandvik. However, there's no mention of the 420HC models. Every source I've found in this knife (1660FLG) says the blade is 420HC. It's a lot easier to sharpen than 420HC, so I'm a bit confused. What steel is in this knife?

UMMM...
It should be Sandvik 13C26. I am glad you brought this up though. Had the wrong info on my site.

By the date you stated it should be Sandvik. Everything I have read says Kershaw started using it then. If I find anything else out I will let you know.

I was going to franken that model with an Aug 07 1660T. I wanted to use the flag/Al handle, the tanto blade, and frame lock but the pivot screw on the tanto is being a big pain.

I have tried every method I have read about here on how to remove it and I cant get it to unfasten. I have done the boiling water to break the locktite. I have used multiple methods of using blade tension to bind the pivot. I have tried all of these with the handle screwed together and even with the two scales separated. I have purchased the key chain tool hoping it would help. I have been working on it for about two weeks. All to no avail. Tonight I tried the rubber band method, having failed in the earlier attempt with tape, and guess what? The screw head stripped...
