Well, I finally managed to find and buy a Leek with the ZDP189 blade and Ti grips. This is my fifth Leek - I have a plain, a black, a damascus, and a composite - and it is by far the nicest. The older models seem to have smoother, snappier mechanisms than the two made this year (dam and cb).

Anything special I need to know about keeping the ZDP blade sharp?

You might want to ask Thomas, but if I remember correctly, the first ones sent out didn't have the famous Kershaw edge on them. Check the BOD on your TIZDP Leek. Does the edge feel as sharp as the CB edge? You might want to send it in to Kershaw for a touch-up.

As for keeping ZDP sharp, first and most importantly don't let it get dull. Its a bear to bring back. I use DMT stones for touch-ups on my ZDP blades. ZDP can be thinned out to give laser-like performance, but I have found that the factory bevels work fine and last a long, long time.

Congrats on a great find!

Thanks for the info. I'll use my DMT stones.
Blade seems OK. The BOD is Oct '06 - would this be early or late?

It didn't, but I thought, here's a chance to work on my sharpening/re-profiling skills, how difficult could this be? :o
A looong time later, after finally getting the bevels to where I wanted them, I thought, "maybe I should have stuck with the factory bevels", but no, I have to have a 30 degree bevel.

Ya couldn't have written this sooner Brad? (smacks own forehead) :D

Where did you locate said Ti Leek? I've been cruising for one myself...that or a MC...damn hoarders :)

A TIZDP Leek went on the auction site for $ 176 last night. I've seen two in the past 2 weeks there. The first one went for about $ 140.

The MC's on the other hand, are very hard to find. But the last 4 I bought were reasonably priced at about $ 150 each.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it!

Naw J, just kidding! I don't think I'll ever part with them, and if for some strange reason I did, and I offered you one before some of the others here, well, they know where I live, and would most likely track you down! :D It wouldn't be a pretty sight!

They better bring a SWAT team, I have collections in some very curious areas :)

The buy it now price isn't bad if you really want one. I've seen 2 go in the past 2 weeks...one for $ 140ish and the other for $ 176. Both were NIB. I stopped on the last one at $ 174.
