hello all,

i bought a kershaw leek 1660 ckt( the one with the black dlc coating). i am unsure of the blade steel, so i'd greatly appreciate it if you leek guys can enlighten me. my leek has "kershaw speedsafe usa" on the handle, and the following in three lines "1660ckt", " KAI Patented", and "ken onion design". now, i notice some people have leeks with dates on them, and even blade material like 14c28n marked on the blade. my leek has neither the date or the blade steel marked.

Thanks!
p.s i am new to this forum thing, i apologize if this question has been answered

They newer ones are Sandvick 14C28N. They recently used Sandvick 13C26. Back in the day they used 440A or C, not sure which.

that's the problem. i am not sure if this undated knife is of the newer ones.. i don't like the 440a, which is why i must know! it would be nice if someone can put me at ease by confirming. thanks for the reply, though :)

I think the old 440 ones with serrations were like spyderco serrations, not the current scallops they use now, which I like way better!

Most likely it's Sandvick not 440. If its all black DLC coated, I don't think they had all black when they used 440.

Okay! What color box did it come in? If its Red than that means its a newer one meaning 14C28N. It it's gray its probably 13C26. The 440 was from a while ago and they did make black DLC in 440.

it came in a red box, so it should be new 14c28n.

thanks for confirming that it's the newer steel, guys! i appreciate your vast knowledge on the leek, bluejayburly. once again, thanks all

I think Kershaw stopped using date codes in 2009 so if you're knife has no date, it is very likely 14C28N.
