Leek Disassembly

Today I wanted to disassemble a Leek (for cleaning), but found that I couldn' t remove the pivot screw, because its counterpart on the other side kept rotating with it, whenever I turned it. I hope you know what part I mean.

Anyway, has anyone here ever disassembled a Leek(I' m sure you have), and can tell me how?

I'll have encountered this problem a few times. This is how I do it, some may do it differently. I open the blade all the way and apply lateral pressure to the blade. By that I mean, I just push the side of the open blade againt the edge of a table. This will kind of pinch the pivot allowing you to break the loc tite. I have heard of people heating the knife to melt the loc tite. I have never done that though. Good luck, be careful.

You can use a soldering gun by applying the tip to the backside of the pivot, but I haven't tried this method. Several have and said it works. Another way is to remove the clip, cut a small piece of rubber (like from a bike inner tube or rubber band) and put this under the clip. Then snug the clip back down on top of it.

Tommie recently mentioned the pressure method Colog refers to, and since he works for Kershaw, I'd try his method first.

Thanks for your comments, I' m sure I' ll try Cologs method first, it also sounds alot easier to do. I' ll let you hear how it goes, however I won' t be doing it until tomorrow morning, it' s kinda late where I live.

I've used both methods and both work. You should have the knife in the open position when you take it apart.

It's a simple and elegant design.

It's so easy a cave man can..... ah, nevermind. Take the clip off, get a piece of whatever is laying around (a wad of tape sticky side out or plastic works best), fold it to fit between the clip screws, put the clip on, tighten the clip, unscrew the pivot, then remove the tape from behind the clip. Easy as pie, and you don't risk damaging the pivot by applying lateral pressure.

Too late, i already tried Cologs method:D But it worked, had no problems taking it apart or putting it back together.
Funny how much difference in performance it makes when a knife is FULLY cleaned.
