I'm working on my paltry Leek collection. Someday it will be healthy and robust. However, in my quest, I have many questions.

Can anyone confirm or deny (with correct accurate info) the following statement sent me by a seller?

i have confirmed there is no 1660gryst only 1660tgryst. the t stands for
tanto blade. the handle is 410 stainless steel not titanium

I'm confused!

not an expert but from what ive been researching the TiZDP is the only leek with titanium handles; and although the only true model number in kershaw's catalog is 1660TGRYST, a number of sites are advertising the random leek as 1660GRYST but with the pic and specs of the TGRYST.

hope this helps,

Matt

1660TGRYST is the part number for the serrated, s30v random leek with 410 stainless handles.

The description of the 1660Tgryst is kind of right except it is not really a "Tanto" blade - if anything it's a "reverse tanto" - the 1660Tgryst is for the Random Leek (with the "Random Task" shaped blade)

You can do a search on the Kershaw Page for 1660GRYST (without the "T") - it returns no results - which at least means there is no such current model # -
obviously "1660Tgryst" will show the Random Leek page.

There does not appear to be a plain version -1660Tgry - as a search only returns the 1660Tgryst.

the 1660T is as close to a PE random leek as there is. but it doesn't have the dark grey coating.

Just a quick point, I don't think that Random Leeks have to have the grey coating. They just need to have a leek handle and a Random Task style reverse tanto blade.

As far as I know the 1660T is a Random Leek.

I'm with you on this one. The original RLs had black TiNi coatings. The randomness comes from the reverse tanto with the just right belly.

Have to agree with both of ya on this one. Just because it
doesn't have S30V blade steel doesn't mean It's not a Random.
It's the blade shape that makes it a Random Leek, not the steel.

yeah, sorry, i found out that the 1660T is a true random leek in the other thread i started. i really like the blade shape.

Yeah SV, it looks like I could be wrong on this one. Of course I stated from the start that is was my "impression" that only the S30V model was a Random Leek.;) I just recalled that when the first ones came out, the 1660TCKT and the 1660T, they were referred to by Kershaw as Tanto Leeks. I'm not getting any younger, so my memories are often foggier than they are clear, so I'm gonna give this one to you guys. Guess I have more "random" leeks than I thought!!!:D

Cheers,
Jon

My Random Leek is S30V, 1660TCKTST made by Kershaw for CK&T, BOD Nov. 2004. Were these the first Random Leeks? The DLC on this one is amazing. Every time it appears to be scratched it is residue from what I was cutting or rubbed up on.

Yes, they were. Awesome knives and hard to run across
these days. I had 4 at one time. I'm down to 2.
