Greg, aka gdavis9999, did a great pictorial on an opened up Leek in 2005. I stumbled upon his thread today, and so I'm linking his pics and write-up here.

Here's a link to his BFC thread on it.

It's a nice piece to see for those of you that haven't seen the innards of a SpeedSafe, and it gives you an idea of how SpeedSafe works.

I'm hoping he will stop by and say Hi to everyone!

Enjoy!

Haha I was expecting something a little different. Yea I ran across that thread today too, I remember being kinda nervous taking my first leek apart for the first time too.

there are no PICS in that thread DV. lots of typed info, just no pics to go with it. looks like they were taken down at one point

Pics worked for me in the article on the first link.

And here I opened this thread thinking DV opened up a Leek with the blade closed again and we had a Lab with metal in its belly AGAIN.

What a let down. :D

Nice article though!

That's the first thing that crossed my mind, Joe.

Bummer. I was gonna ask for some pics of DV going after the torsion bar. :D

Cool thread! That's the most packing grease I've seen in one place since my last SKS I tore down!

LOL! Years ago I picked up an unissued Chinese SKS, blade bayonet with "pot belly" stock, and I liked to have never seen so much grease.

And BTW, SuperLube grease is really super on both SKS'es and Kershaw SpeedSafes.

the only kershaw i've owned that i haven't expored is the Tyrade. Kershaws are really the most maintenance friendly knives out there. It helps to understand them better as well. My 2 favorites to open are the cyclone (speedsafe bypass) and offset with 2 torsion bars.
