Hi guys.

I need some help identifying a model of Leek.
Ill just mention that im from Australia. Our knife laws being what they are I was pretty excited when i found this knife for sale locally.

Im looking for, specifically, a frame lock model.

Now, the confusion begins with the sellers listing description of the knife. Pictured in the listing is indeed a black plain edge Leek. Model KE-1660CKT. The knife is descbribed as a having Stainless steel handles, Sandvik blade. DLC coated.

I rang the seller to confirm they have the knife in stock. He went on to say he has the knife but it is a Snap-On edition. Same knife just with snap-on logo.

I can live with that I thought. So i googled snap-on leeks. The few I could find were all linerlocks, which i have no interest in buying.

Does anyone know if Kershaw did a framelock, Snap-on, Leek? I tried to ask the good fellow if it was liner or framelock, but didn't get far.

Thanks for your time
Tim

I'm not sure models i looked at weren't snap on but were the same model and were frame lock..There are some true Leek experts on here that need t chime in..Only way to tell is if there is a date on the knife anything 2008 and earlier is 440 .early to mid 2009 it sandvik 13c and after it 14c if no date it is newer model..not sure when they switched from sandvik 13c to 14c in 2009 exactly.i'll check

Thats good info. Thanks
Ill call again tomorrow and try for more info. In the meantime I shall research when Kershaw went to DLC tungsten coatings. That date may be enough to i.d the blade steel.

Something that might help a bit more, is the actual model number on the blade. Obviously the one they provided is not correct, and having it would save the time of looking all over. It should be something like 1660SO. I too have seen them in both frame and liner lock.

Model number should clear up the frame/liner lock.

I guess the only question I have now is what blade steel did the 1660cktso come with? Very little info to be found on this knife on the net.

Thanks again
Tim

The knife has has a steel handle so it's a frame lock. I don't remember when these were produced. There should be a date code on the knife and that will help with the finding out the blade steel.

Taken directy from an email from KAI Customer Service:

Steel Timeline:
Born date past June 2008 : 440A Steel (dates on knives)
Born date June 2008- July 2009 : SANDVIK 13C26 steel (dates on knives)
July 2009- Current : SANDVIK 14C28N ( No dates on knives)

Note that the current 14C28N knives will not display a date, so that lack of date will indicate it is the newer knife.
