wOOt the first post in the new kershaw forums!

Ok my question is is it just me or is the frame lock leek not as fast as the Liner lock leek?

My friend bought a liner lock leek from the local gun store and its AO is very fast. A week later I went with a friend to the local walmart and picked up a leek for him except it was a frame lock and it is no where as fast as the liner lock leek. Is it just me or is this normal?

Which is it? If it's a bead blast one, it could just need slight breaking in. And I've seen variances from knife to knife, in my experiece, you could just loosen the pivot slightly, or even just rotate the pivot barrel.

My best guess is that there will be some variance in the speed of
the spring itself and the amound of tension either a framelock
or linerlock is placing on the blade.

So in other words.... no idea. :)

Yes, its the bead blasted PS blade from good ole walmart. The Liner lock is the green colored. The next time I see my friend, Ill try to see if loosen the piviot will help the speed.

im thinking it just needs some break in time. i have 2 zt scavengers and the one i use for my edc is much faster than the N.I.B. one in my room. i think they are all a little tight out of the box.

I did not even know that there were liner lock versions. I have a few leeks and ordered one for my wife - 1660PINK.

As I proceeded to teach her in the operation I was shocked to see a liner lock. I even pulled my Rainbow Leek out of my waistband to make sure I hadn't been hallucinating and actually owned a liner for the past three years.

I thought maybe this was some kind of freak accident and they mailed me a prototype or test model.

Does anyone know the history or any background on this? Production change? Price control? Safety issue?

Other then what Robert has mentioned...
Production change....Kershaw just wanted to add a little flavor with aluminum scaled Leeks, like the multicolored smoked Leeks(which look awesome) and also adding G10 scales...which both require a liner lock.
Price control....there's not much difference in price between the standard frame locks and aluminum liner locks.
Safety issue.... Most folks here would agree they feel a framelock is stroger and more secure, as do I...but I've yet to have a Leek with a liner lock fail me yet.

It is different with every knife typically.

My frame lock leeks are faster than my liner lock leeks. My Boron Leek is the fastest of the bunch because the coating is almost friction-less.
