I've been looking at a new plain-edged Leek for 40 dollars. On it's blade it says "Made in USA", and the date of "Jan 08". My question is, what type of steel is this blade most likely made of?

My Leek is 440A and has been great, but I have a Cyclone in 13C26N and it will get very sharp.

Kershaw will be switching to 14C28N in 2009. It is a collaboration between Sandvik and Kershaw.

Get it. You won't be disappointed. :)

Yeah, I changed my correct answer to an incorrect answer. Thought I should delete. :o

melt, look for a thread titled Steel Questions. It is on page 3 of this Kershaw subforum. This should lead you to more information.

I'm new to Kershaw, so what's 13c26 like?

Sandvik 13C26 is a razor blade (stainless) steel - which as it suggests can and does take a very sharp edge. This type of steel is said to have very high edge stability - due to very fine grain structure.

However Kershaw's use of 13C26 has come in for some criticism (by resident expert Cliff Stamp).

Overall 13C26 is a very good steel - not the hardest or most wear resistant - but it will take a very fine edge.
