Hello,

Today I noticed tiny speckles of rush on the handle and blade of my Kershaw Leek. I was very surprised, this knife is basically new, never touched water. I thought it's stainless steel?

If it is beadblast finish, it isnt unheard of.

Stainless stains less. Isnt rustproof. (Well, some are...)

I'd say just pay more attention to it. I carry a carbon steel knife with me in my back pocket as a work knife and I don't get rust because I always make sure to wipe it down after use. Not even with oil, just keep it dry.

Capt. Carl is right. Wipe down the knife after use, and it will hold up nicely. But depending on the environment, it can still rust. If you use it for food, get some mineral oil at the pharmacy. Very cheap, very effective against rust and as a lubricant. If it's not for food, get a Tuff-Cloth and give it a good rubdown. If it's a humid climate, use a Marine Tuff-Cloth. If you like the way the Tuff-Cloth works, get some Tuff-Glide for lubrication. It comes in a needle-tipped vial, really good for getting it to just where you want it.

I had a couple of Leeks that developed surface rust, but it just wiped off.
If I wipe them off after they get wet with water/sweat I have no problem.
I treat cleaning my knife just like oiling the pivot or sharpening it. Maintenance.
Saw a customer on Friday that takes his Leek (standard model) to the coast with him.
Said he uses it all the time, gets sand in it, fishing line etc...
He rinses it with fresh water and wipes it off. No rust. Said it's never rusted.
I gave it to him April of last year.

Maybe some of you peeps have acid-hands. :D
