Leek vs. Skyline

Which of these do you prefer for general EDC use?

Main concerns on my part are...
Consistently sweaty hands with the leek's slippery handle.
And...
The Skyline not opening with ease. I have weak hands, and I'd prefer not needing to push down too hard on a flipper and/or snapping my wrist like a nutcase just to open a knife. Many videos show no wrist-flick action needed for it, perfectly smooth, yet you hear a few people just struggle with it.

So...please sell me on one of these knives. Thank you!

I'm not a fan of either just based on knife preference (don't like flippers or assisted), but many are... with that being said, I have a Skyline and it flips just fine with very little effort. The blade is just so light (why I'm not a fan) that sometimes you really have to flick it (speed, not pressure). There are many flavors of leek, maybe find one with some inlays or just put some skateboard tape on a few spots.
Or get a mini-grip and be done.

If you want a cheap flipper with smooth action get a crkt ripple. With the bearing pivot it is super smooth. I prefer flippers with bearings then an assisted flipper.

i have both skyline and leek ,,prefer the skyline due to its "grippiness" ,,its also pretty easy to open and close .

The Skyline I own was a little stiff when I first received it, but it's much easier to actuate now after some oil and break-in time. I've found holding the knife pointed toward the ground helps a little with the opening action due to gravity.

I like the skyline better for EDC. I don't like a small assisted knife for EDC because I'm worried about accidental opening, and the Leek blade seems thin for an EDC knife. The skyline has thumb studs that you can use for opening so you don't have to use the flipper. If you are concerned about ease of opening and closing, you might consider a mini Griptilian, or a Spyderco like the Sage or Para2.

I broke the tip off the first leek I owned (mostly my fault), but now I've found I'm hesitant to use it hard. I prefer the skyline. I took my Skyline apart and put a mirror finish on the entire blade. It opens like a dream and is hair whittling sharp. I love it. Both good knives though but I only use my leek for light delicate work

Skyline, hands down.

Many will come a bit stiff when brand new but will loosen up quickly. You can also loosen the pivot a bit. I've never had a Skyline that wouldn't get lightning quick.

I had to relearn my flipping technique for the skyline, but now it works just fine. I don't like metal handles, assisted opening or frame locks so the Leek's not even on my radar. Love the skyline for medium use.

I carry the Leek (a composite blade one) more often than the Skyline, mostly due to size. Both are excellent knives.

If you are concerned with grip on the Leek, you could fashion yourself some grip spots using skateboard tape (not unlike the TracTec inserts on the Blur, Camber, and possibly others). Also, there are some G10 versions of the Leek (liner lock instead of frame lock). There's also the Random Leek, which has coated handles that still provide decent traction when damp.

As for the Skyline's flipping action, sometimes they can take a little bit to wear in. I have several Skylines, and all of them open smooth and fast after being worn in.

Another alternative could be something like the G10 Cryo. It's an assisted-opening flipper, and it has a G10 scale to provide better grip.

I have several of each. I love both and believe that both make excellent edc's. They each have their own strengths and differences but Id say either will treat you great for a long time. Theyre pretty similar as far as specs go so ai would recommend getting your hands on both if at all possible and see which one feels better in hand. I think im up two 11 leeks if I include my girlfriends two and no two are the same. I have one leek that came with g10 scales and an s30v blade, thats one of my favorites and might just be perfect for ya. Check around for one, the model # is: 1660g10

The 1660G10 and 1660TG10 are both pretty awesome knives. There are other G10 models as well (I don't know them off-hand though).

My hands sweat like a sunuvagun, I've never had any issues with using my leek because of it. It is a rather thin light blade, and anything that would cause some serious slippage issues would probably be better served with a larger knife. With that being said, I've played around with a skyline a few times and they're a nice blade as well. Either way you won't go wrong.

Ooo eee! That reverse tanto leek sure is sexy! Its basically just a random leek with g10 then. Very cool.

Skyline all day. The fact that it is not assisted is a big plus. I've owned both and I still only have Skylines left. No Leeks.

I would say Skyline vs. normal Leek. However, I have become very partial to the Random Leek with S30V DLC coated. I have never had any grip issues with it and it is up to most any task (Cannot be said of the normal leeks in my experience). They are a little hard to come by now, the only place I've seen them lately is Cabelas for around $100.
