Did I get bad info today?

I stoped by my local knife shop today to check out the Leek ZDP and the Chive. The shop had three new Leeks ZDP in stock. I picked them up and I was surprised that two of them were as dull as a butter knife the third one was sharp. I had the manager of the shop call his distributor and ask if he had any complaints about the sharpness. He gave us a lot of info but I don't know how true it is. First of all he said that Kershaw was only going to produce 750 of these knives, however so far thet have only made 250 and a number of them have been returned, the distributor said that production on the ZDP has stoped and they will not make any more so it looks like there will be less then 250 world wide. I bought the sharp one on the spot and the manager marked up the price $100.00 on the other two. As far as the boron blade Leek I was told that 1600 were made as an exclusive , the manager is going to check into them and try to get a few.

As for the Chive, I did not know that it was made in boron. They had six Chives in the case and one was dark purple/black blade and frame on the back of the frame it said 1600BLK/1600SS It's not a dull black more like black chrome. Any comments.

You were perhaps mislead. What I know from Thomas at Kershaw is that the remaining 600-700 ZDP leeks will be shipping out late this month. Hopefully, the store owner/clerk didn't take advantage of you in order to make the sale. I bought two ZDP Leeks; one was typical Kershaw Scary-Sharp, the other not so much. So I sent the duller one back to Kershaw and they resharpened it, and returned it Free of charge. Now they are both VERY Sharp! This has been the case for several ZDP Leek owners.

Unless something has happened very recently to the rest of the ZDP Leeks at Kershaw, I would expect the rest of the Leeks to hit the market soon. Can you confirm Thomas?

Check he other ZLeek thread - they had sme problem with sharpening and obviousely QA, but they fixed it and offer resharpening for free for everybody who got dull ones.

My Zleek come very sharp - I was lucky.

Thanks, Vassili.

ralph, you did get some bad info for sure.

I think the sharpness issue on the ZDP Leeks have been covered in detail in multiple threads. In truth it has not been as big of an issue as it seems to have been made out to be.
We have shipped out exactly 465 pieces to date. The remaining balance (around 500 pieces) will hopefully be finished up this month.

The boron Leek (1660BLK, 1660BLKST) was an exclusive back in 2004 for one of our customers. There were around 1100 plain edges produced, and 550 combo edges.

Both Chives, the 1600SS (high polished stainless) and the 1600BLK (polished boron) are regular in line products.
