My brother is looking for a good EDC and he is a lefty. He asked me to give him suggestions .I went through my 23 kershaws and found only 3 that were switchable to left hand carry.I was kinda surprised that was it.One was the Ram and with the locking device on it not sure he'd want that then my new tanto zing and the burst.Any others you can think of let me know.has to be 3.5 inches or less

A note on the RAM, it's great to manipulate the locking mechanism with one's left middle finger. That's how I do it, and I believe jimmer_5 mentioned that being his method as well. I love the RAM, it's very fun.

As for a lefty EDC, I will say Knockout. The Knockout has seen so much use and pocket time since I got it. It is seriously, amazing. Just something about the blade shape, the slim handle, the smooth aluminum not tearing up my expensive CK jeans...mmmmm. The deep carry clip works very well and is quite small yet strong. I always deploy with the thumbstuds, and disengaging the frame lock is very easy. To me, this is one of, if the the perfect EDC blade I've used.

Um...sorry... I figured I made a good case for the Knockout...

In that case, the Echelon is pretty epic, and has a lefty tip-up deep carry option. The Piston is also pretty cool if you like a bigger blade. It actually kind of seems a bit Emerson-esque. It's currently in my rotation, but doesn't get that much carry time. It doesn't have the deep-carry clip, but it carries relatively deep. The clip is actually of the same mount as the Skyline/ZT clip, but the bend is just after the screws. I like it.

Cheers! :D

Chris -

Actually, a lot of the newer Kershaw designs are left handed friendly. It helps having a left-handed designer :)

Here are a few that I can find with a quick flip through the catalog:

Cryo
Burst
Brawler
Knockout
Piston
Echelon
Zing
Zing SS
Volt SS
Random Task II
Turbulence
Rake
RAM

On the ZT side, the majority are left-handed friendly as well, and many are quad carry.

Also, just about every new Kershaw for 2013 will be left handed friendly with reversible pocket clips.

Hope this helps,

- Jim

I like the Benchmade 943. The clip is reversible, and the Axis lock is more left hand friendly than a liner lock.

My OD-2 that I just recieved yesterday is tip-up in left-handed carry. It has a 2.25 inch blade and it only weighs 1.4 ounces. You don't even notice that you're carrying it.

They are nearly all left handed friendly. The clips are just on the wrong side which really does not matter all that much.

The only thing that I check for is whether the thumb stud, disc, or hole is exposed enough to open with my left hand. I have used right handed knives for a long time since there have been few actual left handed knives. I reverse the clip when possible and reverse the one sided thumb studs when possible.

Being a lefty, you just have to accept that you are only 15% of the population and you get screwed on a regular basis!!

I think Stick and Jimmer ought to have left handed specialists in thier sigs!:D

F that...I understand that it will work but us leftys shouldn't have to just deal with it. Thankfully kershaw is making it for both. As mentioned in this thread.

I got used to right handed liner locks so any knife that lets me move the clip to the correct side works. I have a leek and zt 0350 that are fine for left handed carry. Sadly the vapor 2 in elmax is right handed only.

I find great pleasure in that some knives are actually easier to open and close left handed.

If the clip can't be changed that can be a problem, but not always. Most knives I can acclimate to using as a lefty.

I'm right handed, but carry my knife in my left pocket. I carry everything, whether its intended to be right or left handed, or tip up/down. Some knives end up "backward" relative to what you might normally carry, but you just go with the flow and it really becomes a non-issue.

Edit.
I don't care about the locking part. But the pocket clip is what gets to me.

Wait...since when does the Leek have a lefty clip option? And since when is the Vapor II in Elmax? I'm very confused.

As for righty-only knives, I also don't mind them. The Skyline gets a good amount of love, and there's no real option for lefty clip placement unless I tapped the G10. However, since I found the Knockout, I don't have much reason to worry about another EDC. It's perfect, and has both lefty positions with a deep carry clip.

+1 the lock is the key.

As another fellow lefty, I feel your pain! Though I agree that being a lefty has never kept me from being able to handle any of our knives. Some are a little more conducive than others (reversible pocket clips, etc... see the list from Jim above). But I can't think of any of our knives that I can't get open and closed.

Being a lefty isn't a handy cap. It just forces us to adapt a little more. :)
