Left handed chisel grind

I heard a lot of people say that the left handed chisel grind most American makers use makes it very hard for a right handed person to cut wood shavings. I finally took my CRKT M16 camping, and the chisel grind on it ate right through wood like nothing. I really don't know what the problem is.

M-man---I like the CG. Glad you do too but this Thread could get nutty!

some people just seem to have trouble with a chisel ground knife. i made a chisel ground knife for a left handed friend who is one of the few that cant use the ones made for a right handed person. i have a friend that is left handed and can use any of the chisel ground knives that i make with no problem. he tried out the left handed knife before i gave it to my friend and seen no difference in it and one ground on the other side. here is a link to the knife http://mysite.verizon.net/ress6fq6/id14.html

Your CRKT isn't a true chizel grind. It is a v grind sharpened on one side only. The only true chizel grind I know of are the EKI 7b's, BM 970 series and maybe a couple of others. keepem sharp

Typically I grind a chisel edge on the left for righties because they get more contol when slicing or whittling. The blade tries to plane out of the cut, so taking too much off is rarely an issue. As for taking too little off, the forearm muscles on the inside of the forearm are vastly stronger than those on the outside and can muscle the blade back into the work. Also with the bevel side toward the work the blade can be contolled like a narrower knife. Flip the grind around and the knife will dive right in and stall, and it will not want to curve out due to the flat side's leverage.

i used to carry a BM CG stryker quite a bit and it was a RH CG, and also carried a EKI SOCFK a lot, which is a LH CG, , and i didnt see much difference either, except for fine cutting, other than that it made no diff, i am right handed FWIW.

i dont mind CG's, thought they arent my fav, they arent bad, imho easier to sharpen than a std "V".

Try to look at a CG from Leu or Hartsfield. Tom Krein put a CG on my HD-7 and that knife is my sharpest folder.
