Left handed customs?

I'm considering getting into a custom or two in the not distant future. However, I don't want to spend that kind of money on a right handed knife. Who makes good, custom lefty folders?

Any maker that can make a right handed folder can make a left handed one. Just ask the makers you like.

I'm curious about this, because some knives are considered ambidextrous. Is there anything particularly special about a custom left handed folding knife as opposed to a righty?

Properly oriented lock, no extra screw holes or filler tabs for reversible clips, and often only a thumb stud on the correct side. Most people can use locks with either hand though. It's mostly just the concept that if you are going to have something custom made, you shouldn't have to compromise on the small details like that.

As for the OP, there are plenty of makers out there that will make left handed knives. Some who come to mind that I've seen are Walter Wells, James Buckley (Maverick Customs), Trevor Burger, J.D. van Deventer, Jason Guthrie, and Scott Cook. That said, there are many others who will make them so don't be afraid to ask if you find a design that interests you.

One thing to consider when buying a custom lefty knife is that the pool of potential buyers is a lot smaller should you decide to sell it, especially if it isn't a highly sought after maker/model. Weird color combinations or material choices could also affect the resale value.

Got it. I thought maybe there might be some unique features that I didn't know about, but it doesn't seem like there are any. It's simply the exact reverse of a right handed folding knife.
