I like the mariner. The problem is I'm left-handed. Are the left-handed mariners true mirror images of the regular mariners? Including serrations cut on the opposite side of the blade?

I think that all Spyderco serrations are left handed in that they are cut out of the left hand side of the blade.

I posted a question about this a couple of months ago as I was looking at some of my knives and noticed that most of the serrations are on the left side of blades, there are some exceptions but I cant remember which at the moment.

GREETINGS. YOUR ASSUMPTIONS ARE CORRECT. THE LEFT-HANDED MARINER IS A MIRROR IMAGE OF THE RIGHT HAND MODEL (SERRATIONS INCLUDED).

Charlie - Does this mean that all Spyderco left handed versions have thier serrations cut out of the right hand side of the blade?

Bagman - Charlie is correct, although we have stopped (just recently) making left hand Mariners.

When Spyderco made "left hand" models (which we have done since '81), they were all true left hand models in that they were mirror images. The models that we make now are right hand models, left hand capable, but the serrations are not mirrored.

If you can find any of the left hand models of thepast, grab them. They are nice. They are also rare.

As we experiment with new locks, we are keeping left handers in mind. Then the only adjustment to make a left hand model would be the reverse serration.

Sal - I brought the subject up a while ago about serrations on most knives being left hand biased (hooray) so why would you make left handed knives with right hand biased serrations???
