Does anyone have any suggestions for a good left-handed tactical/self-defense knife with a blade around 4" long, a prominent finger guard, and preferably a good strong lock? Hopefully under $100. The new Crawford/Kasper knife by CRKT looks cool, but there's no left-handed model in sight. Thanks.

You should check out one of BM's Axis locks. They are truly ambidexterous. Plus, for tactical/defense, I would stay away from most linerlocks, or check them periodically.

REKAT Carnivour is great. I'm a lefty with a right handed rolling lock on mine. I don't think the RH lock is a hinderance at all. THe knife comes with dual thumbstuds and is very easy to open with either hand. It has a very promient finger gaurd, nice blade shape...very solid knife.

Or, if you are looking for cheaper folders that are of very high quality you can check out the various Spyderco models. The endura, delica, calypso jr, native (now with 440V steel). Or, if you can get one, the Matriarch. You can buy one from http://www.toolshop.de/knives/spyderco/1.html

These knives all feature tip-up ambidextrious clips, making them fully functional as a left-handed folder. Or get a pair, for both sides!

Although far from being an ideal folder, the Benchmade AFCK is a very good multiuse production model with decent ATS34 steel (M2 even better). Left handed models can be had but in serrated only IIRC. The dropped handle design directs the blade to line up better in relation to the forearm in a saber grip for thrusting or snap cutting. The very ample finger groove aids to minimize forward slippage while thrusting and its near flushed liners/ scales minimizes unintentional unlocking of the liner mechanism. Especially in thrusting into medium and then twisting outwards. Try that with a Military. Nyet! Price is less than $100 internet prices. M2 a bit more. Again, not ideal but pretty good for a production model.
