The first truly high quality folder I ever own was the Spyderco Military and I sold it last year for some unknown reason and since then there has been this void in my life.

Practical, tactical and any other "cal" you can think of. Well, I just retired from the Coast Guard after 20 years and was walking in a Military BX and saw a Military in 440V for under a "C" note. I had to grab it.

The void is now filled and boy do I feel better!

I noticed that this knife sports a black clip versus my older one that had a stainless steel one. Were there any other changes to the 2000 Military?

Thanks.

Sold both of mine, now "only" have the CF proto which I don't think is a "user".

Pining for a plainedge CPM440V and sheath.

My Military isn't my favorite "carry" knife because of its size but it is my favorite "using" knife. If there is work to be done with a knife, the serrated Military goes with me.

Well, I was going to post a note today, but thought I would jump on this one. I just got my first Military plain edge 440v and have been using it alot in the last few days, and it hasn't diasappointed. Ya, it's a big folder and getting use to rear pocket carry, in addition to my check book wallet, is going to take a little getting used to. I was initially shocked to see that the factory edge was polished to a mirror finish. I have owned lots of production folders, including a large Sebenza and have never seen this feature. On to the stuff I have cut: The first day I had the Military in the shop, I was cutting 3/4" plastic "t" molding, then over the weekend I was doing some serious tree trimming. The Military helped take down several several mid-size saplings. And the darn thing can still shave hair off my forearm! This is by far the best working tool I call a knife!! And I have just ordered a large Calypso and a Calypso Jr. Ltw to round out my working collection. Now I'm chompin' on the bit, waiting for the Miliary Jr. to pass the test.

I add my voice to the choir. The Military is the knife I go to for serious cutting jobs. I cannot imagine getting rid of it. Not so long ago, I offered my son his choice of the large folders I owned. I was relieved when he did not choose the Military as I'd just have to buy another one.

Marion, it goes a bit like this:

The more you study, the more you know.

The more you know, the more you forget.

The more you forget, the less you know.

So, why bother to study??

Oh yeah, my ATS 34 Military is my most carried full size lightweight during my daily bike trips.

Hi Greg! Don't get on the old computer much anymore but when I do and see a forum "old timer", I usually have to respond.
Good to see you back in the "Military Man" fold. I still have my two 440V Militaries, (plain and serrated), and will never part with 'em. In my mind still the best fairly economical all around user, tactical, or whatever label you use, folder.
Again, good to see you around.

Hi Gene!

Good to see you psoting. As a matter of fact, you were the one who talked me into getting my first Military!

Even though I am a plain edge type of guy, I just find the serrated Military so useful.

I have had this one a week and am very happy with it. I too, will never again part with it.

I hope you're well, Gene!

Greg

Hey, thanks for the kind words Greg. You are one of the greatest additions these forums ever received and the Military is one of the greatest knives ever manufactured. I have written dozens of reviews for this knife, (along with good ol' Dexter Ewing), and received a lot of flack for it in the early days but this knife has endured. The Military will always be a "must have".

WHAT? Kodiak PA you sold that Military? Awwwh man, can't believe that!
Glad to see though that you found that again to fill up your void there!

Oh well, I had to sell my Military recently for personal reasons along with all my knives I had accumulated over the years! Now, I've got to start over or should I say start where I left off!

Just glad to see that companies like Spyderco keep coming out with fine and unique knives!

Looking forward to the wider blade on that Lum, I got a feeling I will be pursuing after it!

Military is not my daily carry knife but it is my very favorite outdoors and around household working folder. It is my favorite kitchen knife as well.

Certainly I'll never sell mine!

Marion, you are right - thanks to round hole nothing stays close to Spydercos in opening comfort and speed.
Maybe only Benchmade AFCK equipped with Spyderco Round Hole
