Lefthanders using right hand Sebenza small?

Dear all,

this is my first post and Ï have been lurking around this forums for a while now. After months of contemplating I have finally decided that I want to buy a small regular Sebenza.

The only problem is: I am lefthanded and only the right hand version is available. So I am asking your opinion and experience if a right handed Sebbie can be handled well enough as a "southpaw? I know it's all down to the personal handling and taste, but I need a final push to place the order.

Thanks for your replys beforehand.

Greetings from Holland,

Peter

Peter G,

I am a left too. I do not recommend you buy a right handed sebenza. You will only be able to open it right handed. Even with a double thumb stud you can't hardly open a right handed sebenza left handed. Check this link to plaza cutlery: http://www.plazacutlery.com/Reeves/Reeve1460625Info.htm They are a very reputable company. They have 2 in stock.

Is this from a dealer in Holland? You can always order directly from Chris Reeve Knives directly.

I'm a lefty and I actually prefer right-handed knives. I know I know... I'm weird. I think the reason why is because I am so used to carrying a knife in my right front pocket and opening it with my right hand after years and years of using right-handed blades. It's the strangest thing but with all the ambi, clip reversable knives I have owned in recent years I have intentionally kept all of them in a right-handed configuration. My sebbies have all been right-handed. I currently carry a Large Classic right-handed Sebbie with dual silver thumb studs and I have no problems opening it with either hand. I can open it quite comfortably with the the left and lightening fast with the right. I will say this though. First, I have never owned a small seb so that may be a whole 'nother ball game if I did. Second, I found the Large Regular so be much less comfortable to open than the Classic, especially with my left hand. I have tried carrying a few ambi, clip-reversable knives in the left-handed config in my front left pocket but it just doesn't feel right. It all about what I am used to though and I am used to looking for my knive in my front right pocket. One more thing to note is that all my knives have dual thumb studs. I don't think I would consider a knive with only the righ-handed thumb stud.

I'd have to second what Ken said. Do yourself a favor and get a dedicated left hand folder from either CRK directly or Plaza Cutlery in Costa Mesa or Neil from True North Knives ussually have southpaw versions always in stock. You don't have to compromise by fussing with a right hand knife. Those right handers are all crazy anyway!  :p ;) :)

As a lefty with a large regular left handed, and a girlfriend who own a small right handed regular I have handled both quite a bit.

I would never consider owning a right handed Sebenza. The only way to go with a knife of this calibre is to own the knife that fits your handedness.

Using a right handed Sebenza just feels plain wierd...using a left handed feels wonderful.

Just my opinion though...hold out for a left handed version, you won't regret it.

I'm a lefty too having purchased 3 lefty sebenza's and 3 lefty Mnandi's. For what you pay for these things, get the right tool for the job, a dedicated left-hand model, you won't regret it. They are available, you just have to be patient and keep looking. As stated in an earlier post, you can always order exactly what you want direct from Chris Reeve Knives.

Thanks a bunch a lot for your freindly and helpful replies

I have made up my mind, I will go for the left hand version! Thanks, too, for the useful dealer references.

With that kind of money to pay the knife should fit like a glove. I'll keep you updated.

This is a great forum... :)

Never buy a right handed liner lock.

Order a Left Handed one directly from Chris.

You will be glad you did.

It's also fun to mess with the right handers with it.

They will have a hard time opening and closing it. :)

I carry a small Left Handed Sebenza every day and love it.

Also, check out the swedge; it looks a little nicer.
