I wanted to buy a rainbow leek for my brother but he is a lefty. Anything factory made that is left handed or completely ambidextrous (preferably with an assisted opening) that is substantially cheaper than a lefty Sebenza?

The SOG Flash is also assisted opening and lefty friendly. Kershaws Random Task assisted opener was also available in a lefty version. You can probably still find them if you look hard enough.

Are you completely sold on assisted opening, or would silky smooth with adjustable action be good enough? If so, I'd take a look at some Axis lock Benchmades. Lots of options, including prices starting around $60 for a Griptillian or 530.

The funny thing is I was about to start a new thread about the very same thing. A friend of mine is looking for a left handed knife with a pocket clip. Something like a Gerber, Spyderco, CRKT, Benchmade, etc. If any has any ideas me and my friend would be thankful.:D

I have Benchmade 730 (Axis-lock), and I swear, because of its' total smoothness, it opens even quicker than the MOD automatic that I traded it for (and quicker & smoother than anyother folder I've owned).

You really might want to take a serious look at an "Axis-lock" Benchmade folder. (And these are totally "lefty-friendly".).:).

hiya doin, fellow lefty...

you want the ultimate quick-open lefty folder? for me, it's the duncan aftershock.

click on this link, then right-click on the "AFTERSHOCK" movie clip at the top, download the video, it's like 28 seconds.. i had brad make me one in 100% lefty. it's the most killer folder i own.. built like a sherman tank, and it damn near makes everyone - knife lovers or not - shit a brick when i show it to them. the knife seriously has drawn crowds. if you've got $450 to splurge, you're in for a treat!

happy hunting.

Alan, what's the crucial dimensions of this folder? Duncan's site does not say what the size is. What type of lock did you get on yours?

here are the stats of my piece:

blade length: 4"
blade thickness: not exactly sure. i eyeballed it at 0.12"-0.13"
overall length: 9"
blade steel: S30V
liners, pocket clip: titanium (not sure what exact type)
scales: green canvas micarta (yummy), but you can specify any combination of g10 or carbon fiber as well. he does exotic woods too.
lock: thick as a brick liner, profile is machined flush with the handle's choil. you can't twist it into disengagement.

you gotta get one, boink. i'm planning on getting another one in carbon fiber, soon as funds (and wife) allow. oh yeh, keep in mind it takes a few days of constant flicking for it to finger-whip open as smooth as the video. on mine i put a pencil marking on where the tang & liner meet to disengage it smoother, cuz it really locks tight.

i would take a look at the kershaw scallion. it is designed as a right handed knife, but i am left handed, and find that the lock disengages easier with the right hand than the left if twisted. i cant get it to close on me if im holding it lefty. the clip is set up for right, but thats pretty easy to learn to open it quick, as it is assisted opening.

I have a lefty Kershaw Mini-Task listed for sale if you are interested. I also have a lefty Benchmade AFCK and mini-AFCK. All are in as-new unused, unsharpened condition with box and papers. If you ask nice I also have a Buck 110 Lefty auto conversion. - Lee

Buy the Rainbow Leek! He'll be happy with it and use the flipper for opening.Or, buy the lefty Random task from Beemerphile, both are good knives for a lefty.

Thanks for the plug, but my Kershaw is a mini, not a Random.

best - Lee

I just got a S&W Boarder Guard and it would good for a lefty. The clip can be put on either side of the knife and it has a flipper. but it's not a Asst Opening.
Just my 0.02
